Being inspired is a key to develop a passion that drives your life through unexpected paths. Arts is the invisible line guiding my personal experiences since I was a child: from visiting museums with my parents, to admiring the beauty of my country, Italy; from studying “Conservazione dei Beni Culturali” in Naples, to making children discover Arts through describing and communicating it, in order to develop alternative emotional levels.
I worked for several cultural organisations in many regions of Italy, in Lombardy, Piedmont, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Marche and Campania. The variety of jobs I had, the professionals I met, and the children I talked with, gave me the possibility to gain a skilled expertise and a rewarding experience.
After many years working for schools and museums, I built up a specific educational model which involves participation and culture, both leading to self-knowledge. Actually it’s important for children to touch different materials, to be able to choose among many artistic techniques, and to use the five senses; at the same time, it’s also necessary to engage them with information about Arts, such as artists’ lives, artistic movements, historical and cultural context.
Why Didactics?
Because it’s time to engage people through an alternative popularisation of artworks and artists.
Because if we know our heritage, we could effectively take care of it.
Because a playful and narrative approach is effective and surprising.
Why Arts?
Because it’s a way of reading reality and life and it deserves to be discovered.
Because it’s an entire universe where you can know yourself and the others.
Because it elicits strong emotions.
Why Children?
Because playing games is not only an entertaining activity, but it’s also a cognitive response.
Because today working with them is fun and enlightening.
Because they are the future us.
Why Leontina Sorrentino?
Because I believe in my method. Without hesitation.
